Don't punish

I do not believe in punishment, of children, criminals, or anyone else.  Some people, by virtue of age and/or personality development and/or neurological impairment, need supervision.  But that supervision can be benevolent.  We can care about that individual no matter what he or she has done.  Also, what does it make me into if I demand the suffering of another individual just because that individual has engaged in awful behavior?  Would I rather be an understanding person or a vindicated person?  Do I really want to enjoy the suffering of someone else?
